Her passion for graphic design and her struggles with identity as a first generation Latina led her to pursue her passion in digital art by launching her own Etsy shop in 2021.

Maria-José (aka EMEJOTA) is a 29-year old muralist, graphic designer and illustrator whose passion for design led her to study marketing and graphic design at her local university. She is the founder of @emejotadesigns which is a project born in 2015 featuring a unique doll named EME - a fictional character that showcases the unique personalities of women in its design which are hand-painted on clear cellphone covers.
